STEP 1 is to draw lightly and create a "line of action". In this case we will draw a curved line. The "line of action" indicates action or posture of the character. NOTE: when starting your sketch be sure to draw lightly. You may need to erase your lines later. |
STEP 2 draw two circles on top of the line. One is an oval shape for the front of the head. Then a more rounder circle for the forehead and back of the head. |
STEP 3 draw curved lines across the circle. They are called the facial guidlies. This comes in handy for when you are ready to draw the face. |
STEP 4 draw an oval circle with an arch in front to represent Dave's rib cage. |
STEP 5 draw his pelvis, which is an almost square shape. |
STEP 6 next draw two long circles for each of the legs. Then two circles for feet. Note: The leg and foot further away can be drawn slightly bit smaller then the one closest to you. This gives the illusion of perspective appearance. |
STEP 7 next draw three circles for his arms and hands on each side of his rib cage. |
STEP 8 now draw his neck from his head to his body. |
STEP 9 is to draw in his face. This is where the facial guidelines come in handy. |
STEP 10 draw Dave's hair. |
STEP 11 next draw his fingers. |
STEP 12 now he needs something to wear. You can draw any outfit, but in this case we will just draw one of his traditional sweaters and pants. Don't forget the details on his shoes. |
STEP 13 is the moment you've been waiting for. Grab a black pen or pencil crayon. Use it to outline over the pencil drawing. NOTE: make sure you only outline the line you want to be seen. |
STEP 14 just erase the lightly drawn pencil. Now you have a nicely drawn David Seville. |
STEP 17 pick out the colors you want to use and be creative. |
STEP 18 next is optional, but shading will bring more life to your character. |
STEP 19 lastly, write your name and the date so you can compare it to future drawings you may do. This way you are able to see how much you have impoved over the months/years. |
